The Story Edit

I help you develop the idea, shape the material and work out what the project needs to become — whether that's a documentary series, a collection of books, a stage adaptation, an oral history, a publishing concept or something else entirely.

What you’ll get

I’ll spend time with your material, ideas and context, then provide a clear editorial assessment and creative direction.

Depending on the project, we might look at:

  • The idea — what’s interesting here, and is the central proposition strong enough?

  • The story — what is the underlying narrative, and is it coming through?

  • The audience — who is this really for, and what do they need from it?

  • The shape — structure, focus, format, positioning or development opportunities.

  • The next move — what I would concentrate on if this were my project.

The Story Edit transforms based on you and the needs of your specific project. It’s experienced, human-driven creative judgement applied to your particular project.

The process

You send me the material and some context about what you’re trying to achieve. I read, think and interrogate the idea, then deliver a written Story Edit with practical recommendations. We can also have a conversation afterwards to work through the thinking.

Pricing

The Story Edit is priced at $950 (AUD).

Longer, more complex or ongoing projects attract additional costs.

Availability and turnaround

Limited spots are available for The Story Edit spots per month, with the aim of providing a quick turnaround of 1 to 2 weeks. Current turnaround times will be confirmed when you enquire.
